New Game: Corner Streamer

Announcing Corner Streamer, a cozy idle game where you grow your own streamer from the corner of your screen while you work, game or watch videos.

What Is Corner Streamer?

Corner Streamer is an idle game about building your own streamer and growing your audience, all from the corner of your screen. It's made to run in the background while you're doing other things, like gaming, working, or just watching videos.

The idea came from another game on Steam called Corner Pond. Having that little window sitting in the corner of my screen reminded me of vtuber stream avatars sitting in the corner of their live stream and the idea for Corner Streamer popped into my head. Building a game loop around that concept just made sense from there.

How It Plays

Your own personal streamer sits in the corner of your computer screen while you go about your normal day. Every so often, you might have the opportunity to play an optional little sponsorship minigame to earn some money/bits.

You can spend your earnt bits on customising your streamers oufit and appearance, as well as your streamers equipment so that they get more viewers and more sponsorship opportunities.

There's also a bit of a long-term goal of trying to collect and max out your relationship with every sponsor in every streaming category.

Development

Corner Streamer is a solo project that took has taken 3 months so far, and will launch in around 3 months, meaning 6 months of total development time.

The hardest part for me in making Corner Streamer was the transparent window effect. You can click on the character and interact with the game but if you click directly next to the character (but still inside the rectangle game window), your clicks will go through and interact with things behind the game. This was important so that the invisible game window background didn't block the players mouse from important things behind it, and makes the game feel less intrusive.

One of the biggest changes made along the way of development was the art style. I originally had a flat outline and fill art style to suit my artistic abilities (which aren't great), but this actually came across as quite creepy! I added some simple shadows and highlight layers on top which made the workflow of development a lot more tedious but I think it paid off in the end.

I hope players look forward to playing Corner Streamer when it releases around April!! :)
